We can’t direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails….

Over the last few months Covid-19 has changed our lives beyond recognition, it will certainly alter your in-salon experience at John & Associates for the next few visits at least. In my salon I have always ensured the team deliver a high level of customer service and that ethos will remain strong. For a short time that high level of care will be displayed in a very different way.

I know demand will be high and we can’t wait to welcome you all back. However, Covid-19 will not disappear overnight and safety has to be our overriding concern.

My salon is a high care area and I can assure you that I am doing everything I can to keep you and my team as safe as possible. The final government guidelines for close contact services have been made available and I have put in place preparations for those specific guidelines! So we are ready to reopen from Saturday 4 July.

A number of important measures have been introduced to maintain social distancing and here’s a flavour of what’s to come.

Probably the greatest change will be the requirement of wearing PPE such as face masks, face shields, disposable aprons, gloves and disposable towels, which are all available to be used.

All this is new to you and everyone in the team so please bear with us as many of these changes will take a little getting used to.

COVID-19 Symptoms

If you or any member of your household has any of the following symptoms however mild please contact us as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment.

  • The recent onset of a new continuous cough
  • A high temperature
  • Loss of, or change in normal sense of taste or smell

Do not attend your appointment if you or any member of your household are awaiting results of a Covid-19 test or have been notified via track & trace that you have been in contact with someone who has received a positive Covid-19 test.

We will re-book your appointment for you as soon as we can after you have completed your isolation period.

Attending the salon with any of the above symptoms could cause the salon to close for 2 weeks.

Track and Trace

We are required to keep a record of everyone who has been in our salon at any one time for 21 days. Our computer system will record this for us based on your arrival time and the time you check out. We will ensure that we have your most up to date details should you need to be contacted. As per GDPR your details are securely stored in our computer system and there is no need to keep a manual log.

Appointments

Bookings will be taken by phone or email only and we will not be accepting walk-ins for the foreseeable future. Our online booking system is unavailable for the time being. Our Barber Shop will operate with a locked door policy so there will be no access without an appointment. Our appointment times will be staggered to reduce congestion in the salon and help keep us all safe. We have extended our appointment times to allow for disinfection processes between services.

The team will be working longer hours to accommodate all those waiting to get their hair done under our new guidelines.

We are now able to book appointments for new clients. Please call 01526 342309 or email receptionjohnandassociates@gmail.com to book.

Online Consultations

To reduce the length of face to face time, online consultations with your stylist will be available in advance of your appointment.  We want to ensure that we have allowed the correct amount of time for your service. If you are looking for a change of style or colour or have home coloured your hair please let us know when you book so that this can be arranged for you if required.

If you have home coloured your hair, you will need to have a skin test and an incompatibility test. It is important that you let us know when you book. We will not be carrying out colour services if you have home coloured your hair and not informed us at the time of booking.

Arrival Time

Please arrive at the specified time for your appointment, there is no waiting area if you are early. Please be mindful that if you are late you will be holding up later appointments and you may risk forfeiting your appointment.

Please refer to our Late Arrival policy for more information.

In order to mitigate any risk we will endeavour to keep you 2 metres from any other clients at all times.

Personal Belongings

Please keep personal belongings to a minimum. Any items that you do bring along will be placed in to a sealed bag for the duration of your time in the salon. As we will not be able to provide magazines you are welcome to bring some reading material with you. This must be taken with you when you leave the salon.

Please attend alone

Please only bring someone along to your appointment if they also have an appointment. Whilst we welcome children into the salon for their haircuts, they will be required to remain under control and with you at all times. We may have vulnerable clients in the salon who have chosen to visit us and we must ensure they do not feel concerned or put at risk. We will have accounted for the number of people in the salon based on space. We will not be able to accommodate extra people that we haven’t accounted for.

Hand Washing

After checking in at reception you will be required to wash your hands. Our hand washing facilities are as you enter the salon and are contactless, there is a sensor for the light, an infra-red tap and soap dispenser and a contactless air hand dryer. Hand sanitising gel & tissues will be available at each hairdressing station and beauty treatment area.

Once you have washed and dried your hands please make your way through to your styling station in the salon. A member of the team will guide you.

Hygiene Packs and PPE

Every client will have a hygiene pack containing a fresh gown, facemask and a bag for storing any personal belongings. This will be on your chair in the hair salon ready for you when you arrive.

To protect you, our stylists will also be wearing PPE which will include a visor, mask and an apron.

The wearing of PPE is not just to protect you, but to protect everyone in the salon. This is the safest way and allows us to keep the salon open and provide you with a full service. Masks are single use items and will be provided by us, so please do not bring your own PPE.

If your hearing is impaired and you rely on lip reading please let your stylist / therapist know and they will wear a visor only if you prefer.

We are using single use disposable towels for protection and efficiency. These towels are biodegradable and will decompose within 8 weeks so are better for the environment.

All items that aren’t single use will be laundered at a high temperature after each use.

Equipment

Be assured that all of our tools and equipment are sterilised after each use in preparation for our next client. We have a medical autoclave for sterilising our metal tools and use hospital grade disinfectant for all our surfaces and other equipment.

Hairdressing Stations

As our salon is very spacious, we will be using every other hairdressing station and we only be using 2 of our basins to ensure that you are more than 2 metres apart. Our salon floor has been marked out to create a clear walk-way down the centre.

1-2-1 Service

As suggested in the guidelines for close contact services, I have paired up Abi our full time apprentice, with Becky. All other stylists will carry out a 1-2-1 service.

The reason for pairing Abi with Becky is that it will reduce the number of people Abi is in close contact with, whilst still maintaining her training.

Entire Household Appointments

We can offer in-salon appointments for your entire household. This is so you can reduce the number of people members of your household come into close contact with.

These household appointments will be carried out by one stylist as all of our stylists are multi-skilled and can carry out ladies hairdressing services as well as barbering and children’s haircuts.

Isolation Appointments

If you are in the vulnerable or shielding groups total isolation appointments are available. Please phone for availability.

Refreshments

The government guidance states that we cannot serve any hot drinks and we are only permitted to serve water in a disposable cup.

We will bring our lovely frothy cappuccinos back as soon as it’s allowed!

Homecare Products

For your protection and everyone else in the salon, please do not handle any of the retail products.

If you would like to buy any home care products as recommended by your stylist or therapist, we will personally find the product and bag it for you to take home.

If you are undecided, we have an online shop where you can peruse all of the products we have available at John & Associates. The product information and pricing is available at our online shop.

Cashless Payments

To protect you and our team as much as possible, we will not be accepting cash payments. Payment can be made by card either using chip and pin, or contactless where possible.

I hope all of the above helps reassure you that you’ll be in safe hands when we next see you.

All these guidelines, rules and regulations are new to all of us and we may not get everything right the first time. If there is something you wish to raise in order to improve your experience please let us know.

We’re looking forward to seeing you again and want your visit to be as safe as possible.
