So, the summer is coming to an end, it’s time to put the sun creams away! Or is it? If you’re concerned with ageing of your skin. Read on before you pack them away.

Exposure to UV light is responsible for 90% of the visible signs of ageing on the skin! Causing depletion of collagen, resulting in lines and wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation, commonly known as liver spots. These can be improved with treatments and a good skin care regime but as with most things’ prevention is better than cure.

The damage caused isn’t visible until years later so the best plan is to use a high SPF daily all year round. Even on cloudy, rainy days when you don’t venture outside. If it’s daylight outside the potential for skin damage is there.

Nowadays the quality of SPF has improved dramatically. They’re now lightweight and non-sticky. Carry out your morning skin care routine as normal, cleanse, tone, moisturise then apply an even layer of your SPF over the top. Foundation and make up can then be applied over the top.

There is question as to the stability of SPF and therefore the effectiveness when it is included in your day cream or foundation so a separate product is recommended.

At John & Associates we recommend Nimue which provides high broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Our SPF50 Environmental Shield also protects against blue light so if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen that’s the one for you.
